Environmental engineering is the application of science and engineering principles to improve air, land, water and living systems for a healthy environment. Environmental engineers help control and decrease adverse environmental impacts by applying beneficial engineering practices. A Brief History
Although environmental engineering may sound like a new field, its application dates back to Roman times with the construction of aqueducts to prevent droughts and ensure clean water. Today environmental engineers work carefully with corporations and law-makers, employing sound principles and sustainable processes in order to protect the future of our air, land and water resources. Environmental engineers develop clean energy, promote green building design and work to mitigate and prevent pollution. |

Employment Opportunities
Due to their technical expertise, hands-on problem solving skills and keen understanding of environmental issues, environmental engineers are in high-demand—especially in resource industries such as forestry, mining, pulp and paper, chemical process, fisheries, agri-food, and oil and gas. Environmental engineers are essential to the new “environmental economy,” which includes environmental reclamation, remediation and restoration. Environmental engineers perform a variety of roles ranging from field work to management, with various government departments and research organizations and environmental consulting companies. |

Essential Skills
Students majoring in this specialty mainly study the fundamental knowledge, theory and skill about environmental engineering, and relevant engineering techniques; meanwhile the students can gain the scientific thoughts and both the basic research ability to apply the acquired knowledge on application researched the technology exploitation and technology management.
The graduates should acquire the following fundamental knowledge and capabilities

1. The fundamental theories and knowledge of Environmental Engineering; |
2. The stated knowledge of engineering technique and modernization, acquaint themselves with the trend of the development of the major; |
3. The stated knowledge of Economic, Management, Sociology and Jurisprudence; |
4. The required cartography, calculation, design etc. basic ability of the major and the ability to apply computer; |
5. The ability to analyze and resolve engineering matter, scientific researches, organization & management and judgment; |
6. An English language and could be good at listening, speaking, translating, writing and reading the foreign books and periodicals of environmental engineering. |
